Senior Citizens Day falls on August 21. The purpose of this celebration is to recognize the contributions of senior citizens to our country. During this particular day, there will be many events organized specifically for senior citizens. There will also be programs to would raise on how to support the elderly in our community.

Contributions of Senior Citizens

Even companies are finding a way to relay their appreciation. Some businesses are providing discounted or even free products and services to senior citizens. For many businesses, the appreciation for senior citizens goes even deeper. Seniors of today were the founders of their companies yesterday. They were the foundations from which the company was built. Without them, the company would not be where it is today. Our senior citizens of today are likely the first batch of employees or first loyal customers for many businesses.

The same applies to us at Instant One Media. Seniors of today and decades (even centuries) past contributed greatly to the evolution of the sign and advertising industry. Did you know that the earliest forms of advertising can be dated back to 3000 B.C. during the Grecian, Roman, and the Egyptian civilizations? After the Dark Ages, there was a consistent increase in the use of signs as a form of advertisements.

The 17th and 18th centuries marked the popularity of colored signboards seen in the streets of England. By the 19th and 20th century, signs had become more creative and began to use lighting to catch the attention of motorists. The development of the incandescent bulb paved the way for more electrical signs which later evolved to include neon tubes.

The evolution of signs and advertisements grows each year. This evolution is continually fueled by today’s innovators and tomorrow’s senior citizens. This Senior Citizens Day, celebrate life, young and old.
